Who is your favorite animated cartoon character?
by gaiagirl inmy favorite would have to be marvin the martian (first appearance 1948).
everything about him cracks me up, from his roman gladiator helmet and kilt, to the way he walks and speaks ("that makes me angry, very angry indeed"), to the ultra cool devices he uses (suprisingly, from acme, who apparantly has outlets on mars).
a very close second, almost a tie, would have to go to droopy (first appearance 1943), who also walks and speaks in a humorous manner, and who has abilities far beyond what would be expected from his dimunitive size.

What to say about the magazines. June 2007 (Evil,Money&Creator)
by LtCmd.Lore inafter the recent thread about keeping control of the question when talking to dubs, i decided to try something.
i'm gonna type up the sudgested presentations for this months magazines and books, then i'm going to give my reccomendations on what to say.. this month it's the awake on money which there are two presentations for, the watchtower on evil, and another watchtower about morals.
then the books are the family happiness book, and the is there a creator who cares book.

As a counter statement to the Awake magazine on the love of money, how insanely hypocritical are these people when it is well known that they've have been one of the biggest
commercially viable religions in the world. A matter of fact they have a marketing portfolio that includes everything from books, magazines, cassette tapes, Cd's all which brings
millions of dollars toward them every year, it is literally a billion dollar corporation world wide. They have peddled the word of god and peddled it well throughout the years and still
with all that wealth they say they need more money from the followers even trying to get peoples wills handed over to them. The love and the desire of money is overwhelming with the
organization even right down to the elders, my previous congregation elders all drove Cadillacs or Mercedes. What burns me more is they take all this money in and never give it out
to charity or where financial need is the greatest, think for a second how many lives they could have saved with all those millions in Africa for example !
Blatant hypocrisy of the highest is it not !

Disfellowshipping smokers is an outrage!
by yaddayadda inhow does the society scripturally justify taking the ultra-harsh measure of disfellowshipping and shunning persons who merely enjoy smoking a few cigarettes a day?
in what way is mild smoking a gross sin that is deserving of such a harsh punishment?
how on earth does the society make the connection between the scriptural exhortation to 'cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit' (2 cor 7:1 & 2) to taking the extremely harsh measure of denying a smoker the right to any contact with their fellow congregation members, friends, and jw family?

Because impart they are trying to create a spiritually clean and righteous organization for the general public to see, call it image building or public relations.
their agenda is to make themselves stand out better that other religions, a clean appearance is very important in the marketing of themselves. Other rules that come to mind
would be men to have short hair, appropriate dress for going in service and there are others. They don't seem to touch booze very much though so thats why many jws. indulge in that so
called pleasure. Which brings to mind why did Jesus turn that water to wine anyways, didn't he care about those peoples health, I guess wine makes one more spiritually righteous

Yes Juni I think allot of people were brought in by good intentions, you certainly sound like one of them, it's true that allot of Christan religions don't
study the bible with their followers, I guess the secrets of power are within the pages so best not to have all eyes on them I suppose

For myself I'd have to say it was the close relationships with the people there, some I don't miss at all, but some I really do miss, like the kids that I grew up with
during my childhood. The only jws.kids I was to only associate with for example and oh yes the girls, the oh so many girls especially at the assemblies, dam those were fun times
And important too of course would be my family breaking up most of us are now non-jws. this of course disabled having a close relationship with a few of my personal family members
my father, a brother and a sister. But to be truthful there are more things I don't miss, the list is to long to mention so I'll close and end it there.

What injustice and abuse of power did you suffer at hand of elders?
by flipper inhow many of us suffered in the jws from a lack of justice, love, or abuse of power by elders?
how did it make you question what you believed or had been duped into believing?
would be good to hear experiences so we can bounce ideas off each other on how it freed you from fear of authority or otherwise.

Yes there was one elder lets call him Homer that I recall. He had two hairs on his head and he of course was the guy that watched all the men in the congregation to make
sure they had no hair covering their ears, I got called to the back of the hall by him once for having a whole half inch covering my ears, he said it was
conducting unbecoming of a Christian and I was not allowed to give talks anymore or go out in service....my father was so ashamed of this he wouldn't speak to me for a week or more.
Funny thinking about it now I remember a picture in a WT that had Jesus sitting on a rock talking to people and he had a full beard and long hair past his shoulders and wondered this
is very strange. Yes there were allot of Homer Simpsons in my hall come to think of it, dumb, hypocritical, alcoholic and allot with no brains

Ya, I'd have to go with what Ninja said, I too once had a strong belief in god, but some how lost it due to the JWS.
Strange isn't it that religion can have that kind of effect on people
